ResNet Hardware Requirements
Shippensburg University > ResNet > Get Connected > Requirements > Hardware Requirements

Our minimum requirements have been updated for the Fall 2008 / Spring 2009 semesters.
If your PC or laptop does not meet the minimum requirements, we cannot guarantee ResNet access and we cannot guarantee Help Desk support in getting your device connected.
Special Alert!
Please be advised that computers running Windows 95, 98 or Windows ME are NOT permitted to connect to ResNet.

The minimum allowed operating system is Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.  Windows 2000 will be permitted to connect, but ResNet will only offer limited support for this operating system.

Warning Graphic When connecting to ResNet Standard, students must provide their own category 5 data cable with RJ45 connectors, usually called a "Ethernet" cable. This is the cable that connects the jack located on Ethernet card to the ResNet jack.  The ResNet Ethernet jack is by the student desk and is labeled "data".
Warning Graphic Although each room is provided with a surge-protected power source, residents may also wish to connect equipment to a surge-protected power strip for added protection.
Warning Graphic ResNet staff cannot recommend brands or install hardware (including network cards).
Warning Graphic A modem is NOT an Ethernet card, nor can it be used in place of one on the ResNet networks.
Warning Graphic A phone cable is NOT an Ethernet cable, nor can it be used to connect to the ResNet networks.
